16/10/09 - Vladivostok
Only open to tourists since 1992 due to the Russian Navy's Pacific fleet being stationed here. In Vladivostok we are currently closer to San Francisco (8,400km) than to Moscow (9,302km)! It feels a bit strange to Astrid being in a place that she decided to visit when she learned about the transibirian railway in school 15 years or so ago.
We urbaneered by getting on a random tram (#6) and found ourselves on top of one o
f the hills. We like Vladivostok with its fresh sea-air and character provided by its slightly tired art noveau architecture. It also boasts nice cafes, cake and coffee :)
Due to unforseen circumstances (cancelled ferry) our next stop is South Korea, rather than Japan, and the ferry (hopefully) leaves tomorr
