01/07/10-04/07/10 - A Malay Birthday Treat

Georgetown, main town on the island is a UNESCO world heritage site and wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely stroll and take in the rare mix of influences and styles; Chinese, Malay, British and Indian cultural heritage is on display. Interestingly, many grand old colonial buildings lay crumbling in a state of disrepair whilst elsewhere on the island huge new apartment complexes reach for the sky. Georgetown also has several jetties with people living over the murky waters. weather and hotel facilities to relax by the pool and enjoy a touch of pampering with a massge at the hotel spa. The hotel was adjacent to the beach and sea, but the sea is not the most enticing due to the heavy silting and abundant jelly-fish that arrive. The pool was just fine for us.

We were there in time to have a look around the local nightmarket and enjoy a Malay-style Laksa.
