Austria & England: 15/12/2011 - 8/01/2012Und wiedereinmal geht ein Weihnachtsurlaub zu ende - viel zu schnell wie ja jedes Jahr. This year Ian and Astrid spent the winter period in their respective home locations - Astrid in Austria and Ian in England. For Astrid's trip a little routine has established itself which always starts when arrives on Uttendorfer grandma's birthday (81 this year), then comes Christmas on the 24th (with Hornblowers and Würstelsuppe), the traditional xmas Schweinsbraten in Uttendorf & xmas Clubbing at Nexus Saalfelden, followed by a trip to Leoben to spend time with Grandma. The Styria portion of the holiday also includes an excursion to Graz to catch up with old friends from uni times. To conclude the xmas trip Astrid gets to spend some more time with her dad (since last year this is an overnight stay at Fred's mountain chalet) before it is time to say good bye again to grandparents and parents. New this year was a Silvester Concert in Salzburg and on her trip to Leoben Astrid discovered new treasures in grandma's flat - stamps from 1908 and the war time with currencies that long since ceased to exist (K&K Heller & DeutschÖsterreichische Kronen!). It was another fun holiday - the only downside was the weather, whilst it did snow a lot this year it also rained a lot unfortunately and so it was a less picture postcard perfect winter wonderland.
