Buenos Aires - Helado y Parillas – Asi es la vida

Buenos Aires: 30 September - 8 October 2014

We loved Buenos Aires. Out of all the big South American cities that we have been to, BA is probably our most preferred. We really warmed to the Argentinian way of life, especially easy to assimilate was the superb ice cream and steak J. We chilled in our little AirBnB flat with the stain glass windows in trendy San Telmo, we toured the street art scene with Graffitimundo, biked around BA on a cycle tour, checked out picturesque Recoleta cemetery and went on a tour of Teatro Colon. We were tempted to attend a performance, but worried that we wouldn't get in with our traveler wardrobe, so gave it a miss. We would have also attended the super-classico football game between River Plate and Boca hadn't the River fans complained that too many non-members are attending these games. We thus had our tickets refunded and had to watch the game on TV, which considering that it was pouring down torrential rain all day was probably the more comfortable if less exciting way to enjoy the game. We also added a few more hours of Spanish, which Astrid completed and Ian boycotted halfway through. We definitely enjoyed the steak and in a schoolboy error the first time in our local Parilla managed to order 1kg of steak between us. The conversation went something like this:

Astrid: Do you want to share a steak? – it says it is 450g – that’s like almost half a kilo
Ian: Na – it’s not that much. I fancy this one which is 550g
Astrid: I think both of these might be too much – no?
Ian: I don't think so, it'll be fine.

We did manage to finish it all, but it did put us off steak for a few days. We were more reserved for subsequent visits. Astrid, however, still has a slight guilty conscience about adding to global warming due to our excessive meat consumption.
