Uruguay - sweltering heat, epic floods & more mate

Colonia & Montevideo - Uruguay: 27 October - 31 October

When we boarded the ferry in Buenos Aires to Colonia we knew that Uruguay would be our final South-american country on this trip. Colonia is an old port town - very quaint and picturesque with original Portuguese & Spanish cobbled streets and houses. The day we arrived it was boiling hot and the room in our hostel was so stuffy we just called it the sweat-box. The old town is small enough to walk around in an hour which left enough time to chill & soak in the relaxed vibes. The day before we took the bus to Montevideo the heat had turned into a massive thunderstorm. It started in the early evening and was still going by lunch time the next day. The thunderstorm brought torrential rainfall too and caused the roads to flood and the buses to stop running. We were 'stranded' at the bus station for five hours until luckily the roads opened again and we could head to Uruguay's capital Montevideo. In Montevideo we spotted more men with mate than anywhere else :) We walked the mean streets of Montevideo and feasted on our final asado before heading off to Miami...
