MACAO

Hong Kong 18/01/2010 - 22/01/2010

A day in Macao. Macao is an hour by boat from Hong Kong and the boats leave every 15 minutes or so. Macao, like Hong Kong, is a former colony which was handed back to China recently and is now, again like Hong Kong a special administrative region of China. Macau was both the first and last European colony in China. Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 16th century and subsequently administered the region until the handover on 20 December 1999.

Macao is especially known for gambling - rivaling Las Vegas. Macao is also the most densely populated area in the world. Apart from the glitz and glamour and crazy shaped skyscraper hotels/casino's Macao has a lovely old-town with unexpected European/Portuguese architecture, character and charm.
