Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 16th century and subsequently administered the region until the handover on 20 December 1999.Macao is especially known for gambling - rivaling Las Vegas. Macao is also the most densely populated area in the world. Apart from the glitz a
nd glamour and crazy shaped skyscraper hotels/casino's Macao has a lovely old-town with unexpec
ted European/Portuguese architecture, character and charm.
